Abstract

Background

Xylaria is a little known genus in the state of Michoacán, in such a way that only five species had been cited.

Objective

Contribute to the knowledge of the diversity and distribution of the Xylaria genus for the state of Michoacán.

Methods

Collections were carried out randomly at the Biological Station Vasco de Quiroga, collections came primarily from cloud forest and oak-pine forest. The identification was made under the traditional techniques in Mycology that include macro and microscopic study.

Results and conclusions

Sixteen species of the genus Xylaria are described, of which 12 are new records: Xylaria arbuscula, X. berteroi, X. corniculata, X. cubensis (and its anamorph phase Xylocoremiun flabelliforme), X. aff. gracillima, X. grammica, X. juruensis, X. liquidambaris, X. mellisii var. nuda, X. scruposa, X. subcoccophora and Xylaria sp.. All are distributed in the cloud forest except for two species found in the pine-oak forest.
