Abstract

HERNANDEZ VELAZQUEZ, Elena; MARTINEZ TOTO, Daniel Gustavo  and  NAVARRO ROJERO, María Guadalupe. Evaluation of second layer application processes to improve the scratch resistance of a water-based polymeric coating applied to vitric substrates. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2022, vol.5, n.4, e235.  Epub Aug 14, 2023. ISSN 2594-1925.  https://doi.org/10.37636/recit.v5n4e235.

Tree kinds of anti-scratch coatings were applied to protect a polymer water base applied on a glass surface. Oleic acid (AP5), silane by Combustion Chemical Vapor Deposition (CCVD), and lacquer by curing UV were evaluated. Each one was put in contact with two types of cardboard, laminated and poly laminated using Rub Tester Sutherland 2000TM equipment. At the end of the test, was evaluated the damage level for each sample. The coatings were evaluated both before and after applying the abrasion. Brightness, hardness, superficial tension, transmittance, and lubricity were measured in each case searching the performance level of scratch resistance and protection of the previous film. Results show that the best behavior is reached with oleic acid used as a lubricant. Also, the aesthetic properties of the first coating are not affected.

Keywords : Anti-scratch coating; Oleic acid; Silane; Combustion chemical vapor deposition (CCVD); UV curable coating.
