Abstract

ORTIZ BRIANO, Sergio. Of loves and heartbreak. Negotiation and coexistence in rural Normalism, 1939-1954. Debates hist. [online]. 2021, vol.9, n.2, pp.111-145.  Epub June 20, 2022. ISSN 2594-2956.  https://doi.org/10.54167/debates-por-la-historia.v9i2.750.

Nowadays as expressions such as education, citizenship, and inclusion are in vogue, the individualism and lack of interest in the "other" are seemingly leading society towards a decivilizing process. In this context, the present work focuses on the strategies that the students at rural Normal schools used to establish negotiation mechanisms with their authorities, which can be found in documents such as activity reports, lesson plans, and generally, in the correspondence sent and received in these schools during these years. Particularly, some of the strategies were related to health and school hygiene, while others emerged from the loving contexts of the students from a historical perspective. This research was done through the revision of current literature and of the historical archives of the rural Normal schools of San Marcos, Zacatecas; Cañada Honda, Aguascalientes; as well as the General Archive of the Nation, where the collection regarding the already extinct rural normal in Roque, Guanajuato, was found.

Keywords : students; youth; disciplinary code; regional peasant schools.
