Abstract

LUNA ALFARO, Ángel Christian  and  ARMENTA RODRIGUEZ, Petra. Teaching and learning about masculine power and violence: study case in a primary school in the south of Veracruz. Debates hist. [online]. 2022, vol.10, n.1, pp.141-173.  Epub May 02, 2022. ISSN 2594-2956.  https://doi.org/10.54167/debates-por-la-historia.v10i1.879.

In this submission we show the preliminary results of an anthropological investigation in a primary school in the south of Veracruz. The study focuses on revealing how historical temporality is taught among girls and boys using elements of ethnography and masculinity studies. The subject that interested us to observe is the teaching of a historical period known as Independence of Mexico. Thus, we seek to understand how the teaching of the masculinized history of independence has contributed to entrench male power and gender violence.

Keywords : Masculinities; ethnography; anthropology; education; violence; power.
