Abstract

ORTIZ BRIANO, Sergio. The rural Normal schools from pedagogical journals. Desires for emancipation of rural students and pedagogical improvement. Debates hist. [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.1, pp.19-46.  Epub Mar 27, 2023. ISSN 2594-2956.  https://doi.org/10.54167/debates-por-la-historia.v11i1.1008.

In this study, we identify mechanisms that bring to light some of the interests and concerns of rural students regarding their own training as rural teachers. While in some cases student leaderships presented topics from political orientation meetings with small groups, in others emerged the initiative to produce journals where, in addition to the ideological formation of the student body, they also sought a projection towards the community through the presentation of topics of interest for rural teachers in service, as well as for farmers in the region. Although we know of the existence of journals in most of the country's rural Normal schools, here we identify and analyze only two of them to inform of the transition between the concerns of the leaders for the ideological formation of students and the emergence of alternate leaderships who demanded their legitimate aspiration to build what they defined as a moral renewal. These are the journals Vanguardia Campesina, from Roque, Guanajuato, published in 1935, and Irradiación, published at the “Miguel Hidalgo” Rural Normal School, in Atequiza, Jalisco, in 1960.

Keywords : Rural normalism; rural teachers; ideological formation; moral renewal.
