Abstract

VEGA HERNANDEZ, Arianna  and  TRUJILLO HOLGUIN, Jesús Adolfo. A methodological proposal for researching contemporary history applied to the research of student movements repression in Chihuahua during the 60´s. Debates hist. [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.1, pp.189-213.  Epub Mar 27, 2023. ISSN 2594-2956.  https://doi.org/10.54167/debates-por-la-historia.v11i1.1103.

This article aims at contributing in research methodology to the study of contemporary history. This type of research is generally guided by the critical historic method which has been widely studied but it is also vague. This method should be adapted to different periods and contexts and does not have specific steps for its implementation. It is recognized that history has particular research methods, but this work has been proposed with the goal of facilitating the analysis process. This method tries to triangulate historical data through the hermeneutic analysis of oral and written texts, thus avoiding the bias in the sources and the researcher. However, it is recognized the intrinsic subjectivity in all research. This proposal does not try to narrow and stick to a single historical research model. We are conscious that every researcher and every topic to be worked on will outline its own forms. Nonetheless it proposes a path which can vary but at the same time can guide contemporary historic research that needs to draw on written and oral accounts for its development. The main contribution of this article resides in the importance of using the four phases offered in an analysis to carry out the Critic History Hermeneutic (HCH) model which consists of identifying the research problem, collecting data, critical analysis of the sources and written report.

Keywords : hermeneutic; heuristic; oral history; critical history method.
