Abstract

RODRIGUEZ GAVILLA, Arelys. A look into History throughout time. Debates hist. [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.2, pp.113-136.  Epub Oct 30, 2023. ISSN 2594-2956.  https://doi.org/10.54167/debates-por-la-historia.v11i2.1138.

This article presents a look into History throughout time, addressing a short review of historiography from its beginning in the world and in Cuba. Concepts about what it means to be a historian are presented, and main Cuban historians are mentioned. Furthermore, topics such as treating history as a science and linking history to local history are presented. Also, considerations about Cuban history in the educational Cuban system in general are introduced. This research was conducted under a qualitative paradigm, within dialectical materialist bases. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, as well as necessary research techniques to locate valuable information. Finally, the following conclusions were reached: the study of history as a science allows for an understanding of the problems and reality of men and women in their historical present. At the same time, men and women are the ones who write history and historiography is a reflection of the peoples and the times lived in a certain historical context. It is necessary to enhance and favor the study of national history in each country in order to preserve its roots, traditions and culture. The Cuban Educational system has certainty that the teaching of history is essential to express a legitimate national culture. We are a reflection of the past and at the same time continuity and commitment to our own history.
