Abstract

CADENA SOLIS, Ricardo. Links of the exile in Mexico through the magazine Humanismo. Rev. hist. Am. [online]. 2020, n.158, pp.289-314.  Epub Feb 28, 2022. ISSN 2663-371X.  https://doi.org/10.35424/rha.158.2020.607.

The phenomenon of exile in Latin America between the fourth and fifth decade of the twentieth century showed the first effects of the Cold War in the region; at the same time, it promoted the formation of intellectual networks that made new cultural projects. This paper analyzes the history of the magazine Humanismo (1952-1961) -published first in Mexico City and, later, in Havana, Cuba- based on the relationship between Mexican intellectuals and politicians and Latin American and Spanish exiles who stayed mainly in Mexico and were well integrated to Mexican culture. This cultural project allowed the formation of networks of intellectuals who had to adapt to the country in which they lived. and at the same time had to plan different methods of social intervention, sometimes opposed, which were reflected in the history of the magazine.
