Abstract

LUNA, Lizeth et al. Surgical and endovascular interventions in patients with rheumatological disease with vascular compromise. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2020, vol.48, n.1, pp.30-34.  Epub Aug 23, 2021. ISSN 2696-130X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.m20000008.

The advances in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery have allowed the expansion of treatment options and revascularization procedures for the clinical manifestations of rheumatological diseases that comprise vascular territories. For instance, Takayasu’s arteritis might present with stenosis at different levels that require interventions in the affected vessels by the inflammatory process. On the other hand, the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome is associated with arterial and venous thromboses and demands complex and prompts interventions to avoid complications. This review article focuses and analyzes the clinical vascular manifestations of rheumatological diseases, the pathophysiology, and the treatment options that have demonstrated promising clinical outcomes in the third-level care institutions.
