Abstract

VALDES-DUPEYRON, Osvaldo et al. Transposition of the great saphenous vein in the anterior region of the thigh as an alternative to dialysis treatment. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2023, vol.51, n.3, pp.101-105.  Epub Sep 25, 2023. ISSN 2696-130X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.23000014.

The creation of arteriovenous fistulas in the lower limbs can be a valuable alternative in patients with end-stage renal disease and nonviable vascular access options in upper extremities. In the present article, two patients with exhaustion of vascular accesses in the upper extremities are presented. After an exhaustive assessment, it was decided to create a fistula between the superficial femoral artery and the great saphenous vein in the anterior loop of the right thigh. Both cases evolved favorably and began dialysis 45 days after surgery with a primary patency of one year and more than three years, respectively.

Keywords : Vascular access in the lower extremities; Arteriovenous fistulas; Saphenous vein loop transposition.
