Abstract

ARIAS-RODRIGUEZ, Fabián D. et al. Chronic ischemia threatening the lower limbs: diagnosis and treatment. Literature review focused on the first level of medical care. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2023, vol.51, n.4, pp.125-133.  Epub Apr 16, 2024. ISSN 2696-130X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.22000023.

Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) is the leading cause of non-traumatic major amputations and associated 5-year mortality. Although it is a known entity, forming part of the spectrum of manifestations of peripheral arterial disease, it is necessary that this disease be detected early from the first level of medical care in order to reduce the incidence of related complications. This review aims to provide an updated summary on the subject of CLTI, its complexity, which covers its epidemiology, the evaluation of cardiovascular risk factors, diagnosis and treatment together with prognostic stratification, and finally, possible strategies in its therapy.

Keywords : Chronic limb-threatening ischemia; Peripheral arterial disease; Endovascular intervention; Surgical revascularization.
