Abstract

MANSUR GARDA, Juan Carlos. The natural land-scape and gardens in the life of cities. Rev. filos. Univ. Iberoam. [online]. 2023, vol.55, n.154, pp.158-186.  Epub May 17, 2024. ISSN 2954-4602.  https://doi.org/10.48102/rdf.v55i154.155.

This article is a reflection on natural landscapes and gardens in order to understand their importance in cities, as well as the need to recover them for urban design. For this, I focus on the philosophical considerations of Simmel and Watsuji on the landscape, with the purpose of showing that the poetic encounter between nature and its viewer not only allows us to recognize the particular character or “Stimmung” of the natural landscape with which we are linked , but by living poetically with nature, our Kimochi is manifested, revealing our existential and historical link with the weather and natural events, which also invites us to develop an existential cultural link with others and with ourselves. Hence the need to incorporate nature into cities and learn to live poetically with it.

Keywords : City; landscape; nature; garden; Kimochi; Stimmung; Dwell; poetic dwelling; Simmel; Watsuji.
