Resumen

MORENO CORRAL, Marco Arturo. Ciencia y arte en dos publicaciones astronómicas novohispanas del siglo XVIII. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2013, vol.35, n.102, pp.11-31. ISSN 0185-1276.

In 1769 several astronomical phenomena were observed from Mexico City. José Antonio Alzate Ramírez was one of those who studied them, and he published the information he obtained on two loose sheets illustrated with engravings. One of the sheets contains a beautifully executed image of the palace of the cabildo, or municipal government of Mexico City. Until the present these documents-which are valuable from both the aesthetic and astronomical points of view-have been practically unknowne information they contain and their beauty are sucient motives for bringing them to light for further study, for they constitute a prime example of the scientic activity taking place in eighteenth-century Mexico, as well as the quality attained by the engravers working here at that timee article also provides new information regarding the colonial building presently occupied by the Mexico City Administration along the southern east side of the capital's principal square.

Palabras llave : astronomical colonial engravings; colonial buildings; eighteenth-century.
