Resumen

HERNANDEZ ESPINOZA, Patricia Olga. El sarampión y la mortalidad infantil en el Distrito de Hermosillo en 1898: Un ensayo de antropología demográfica. Cuicuilco [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.63, pp.273-292. ISSN 0185-1659.

Measles is a viral disease which, together with smallpox, was the cause of greatly increased mortality, mainly among children. In Sonora, their presence is registered as of the 16th Century and civil records from the late 19th Century continue to register its presence as one of the principal causes of death regarding infant mortality. The analysis of Civil Records from the District of Hermosillo in the year 1898 is the basis for this essay, whose main purpose is to investigate whether measles was one of the main determinants of infant mortality in the Hermosillo District at that time, as well as to define its impact regarding the mortality rate of children under the age of five.
