CASTILLO FARJAT, Luis Alfonso. Autonomous spaces and community self-management in the southern sierra of Oaxaca. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.43, n.171, pp.27-44. Epub 09-Jun-2023. ISSN 2448-7554. https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v43i171.913.
Throughout Latin America, particularly in Mexico, processes that propose autonomy as a form of resistance to the State and capital are emerging. Indigenous people, communities, and organizations have taken up the autonomist banner to sustain their existence. Here, we seek to analyze from a concrete case the spatial production generated from the autonomous projects and the historical disputes materialized geographically. This allowed us to observe the development of spatial production in the studied area, showing dispossession as the common thread of social relations. We consider that the spatiality generated in the dependent economies shows the high level of conflict that has determined people's living conditions. We believe that the theoretical and conceptual proposal used here can be expanded and developed for the analysis of other similar experiences of counter-hegemonic spatial productions.
