Resumen
VESQUE, Martine. “The instrument to see” or tlachieloni. Trace (Méx. DF) [online]. 2017, n.71, pp.111-137. ISSN 2007-2392. https://doi.org/10.22134/trace.71.2017.29.
In the pictographic manuscripts and in the descriptions made by Bernardino de Sahagún and Diego Durán in particular, a body of Aztec gods is endowed with numerous attributes. This article examines an object held by certain deities, the tlachieloni, depicted by the chroniclers as “the instrument to see”. It suggests that this attribute must be considered as an element destined to be Interpreted and “activated” during certain war-related ritual occasions, thus appointing the function of the deities who elevate it at the rites in order to succeed in warfare.
