In the late 19th century and as part of the consolidation of political power in Argentina, we find a series of gaps left by the state, which were filled by the work of associations that emerged from civil society, in which the village women studied in this article acquired a noticeable presence. This article seeks to analyze relations between that nascent state and local institutions designed to provide health care and education in communities in the center and south of Buenos Aires. These spheres have not been studied in this sense to date, in the shift towards the 19th century when the functions and importance of traditional organizations such as charity organizations, many of which have a strong Catholic influence, were resignified.
