This paper deals with the issue of the strategic location of the Argentinean Northwest (NOA), a region wich may well play a significant role in the process of economic and political integration, taking place in South America. There are two parts in the paper: the first examines the trends in economic integration pursued by Argentina in the last few years, The second part reveals the role of the geographical individuality of the NOA regarding the economic integration of the area to the rest of the South American continent.
