TAMAYO, Sergio. The Battle for the Citizenship. Electoral Concentration Narratives in Mexico 2018. Alteridades [online]. 2019, vol.29, n.57, pp.23-34. ISSN 2448-850X. https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/izt/dcsh/alteridades/2019v29n57/tamayo.
The electoral process is analyzed as symbolic forms of a struggle for power. The methodological approach is situational, following the perspective of Clyde Mitchel and Alisdair Rogers. By studying the electoral conclusions in Mexico in 2018 we can spotlight: a) the symbolic appropriation of public spaces; b) the alliances and political networks that weakened or strengthened challenging coalitions; and c) the discursive and performative act of the political and electoral gatherings. It is concluded that in these campaigns, citizen’s projects in their struggle for the nation are expressed which has led to what amounts to a battle for the citizenship.
