In 2011, the Department of Indian Education (known in Spanish as DGEI) showed its interest in conducting an external qualitative and participatory evaluation of its educational policies for indigenous population. This article presents a brief historic view of indigenous education, our methodological approach for conducting an evaluation of public policies in the educational field, and a synthesis of the most significant findings on the following themes: perceptions of indigenous education, the policies using curricular parameters and frames in evaluation, dialogue and participation, training and formation.
