Resumen

QUISPE LIMAYLLA, Aníbal. The potential value of organic, rural and urban residues for sustainable agriculture. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.1, pp.83-95. ISSN 2007-0934.

Developing countries such as Mexico face today, among other problems, agricultural crisis and food insecurity, on one hand, contamination of organic solid waste (RSO) and for their mishandling on the other. Both problems can be attacked with simultaneous actions and obtain additional benefits. To test this conjecture, from April 2000 to March 2013, joint actions were carried out on composting and food production, with participation of the people in both rural and urban areas. In this paper are described and explained the processes, results and impacts, and achieved learning. The overall method used was action research, with specific procedures, as experiment and systematization of experiences. The results showed that proper handling of both urban and rural RSO, with biological processes such as worm composting, with technology and appropriate infrastructure, in small and medium scale and participation of people, a good quality fertilizer is obtained, when applied to crops, good yields are achieved. From the above it was concluded that our society has a great opportunity to have fertilizer of good quality from the vast amounts of RSO generated daily, for agriculture that demands to be organic and sustainable.

Palabras llave : composting; organic agriculture; organic solid waste.
