Resumen

VALDIVIA PLAZA, Veronica Gabriela  y  CAVAZOS ARROYO, Judith. Social representations: a comparison between Korean and Mexican male protagonists in youth series from the perspective of women from Central-Western Mexico. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2023, vol.18, n.35, e0002015.  Epub 31-Dic-2024. ISSN 2007-8110.  https://doi.org/10.22201/crim.20078110e.2023.11532.

The last decades have seen an increase in the production and consumption of streaming series. Particularly, k-dramas have managed to captivate global audiences, at the same time that local productions seek to keep up with new proposals, among which youth series stand out. The male protagonists are used as an attraction for audiences; therefore, the objective of this research is to compare the social representations of the male protagonists of Korean series versus those of Mexican youth series, among women of the Generation Z, living in the central-western area of Mexico. A quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional research was conducted with a convenience sampling of 1104 women between ten and twenty five years of age who had watched Korean series and Mexican youth series. The central core method was used for the analysis. The findings showed that the central core of the representation of both male protagonists coincides in that they both are handsome; however, they differ in that Koreans are also tall; while Mexicans are funny, strong and rich men. The peripheral system of the two groups differs; while all attributes associated with the Koreans are positive, perceptions of the Mexican protagonists are positive and negative.

Palabras llave : social representations; k-dramas; youth series; male protagonists; generation Z.
