HUARTE CUELLAR, Renato. ‘Education’ Is Said in Many Ways. Interpret. Rev. herméneut [online]. 2022, vol.7, n.2, pp.157-164. Epub 03-Mar-2023. ISSN 2448-864X. https://doi.org/10.19130/irh.2022.7.2.00x27s0038.
It is common to forget that education or to educate are words. In this sense, if we are able to follow an approach to education as a language issue, we could then consider educational problems from new perspectives, e.g., the ways of thinking “education” in different languages. This text was inspired by the approach of Syrian-French linguist Émile Benveniste to different languages, and by the consequences of his discussion with Jacques Derrida. In this way, other possibilities to think “education” open up, from different languages, from different cultures, from different latitudes and traditions. We will go through the argument posed by the Syrian linguist and his responses to Derrida’s critiques in order to be able to think education or to educate as words.
