LOPEZ-CALVA, Juan Martín. Two Trends and a Humanist Commitment towards a Positive Anthropocene. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2024, vol.54, n.1, pp.11-41. Epub 11-Mar-2024. ISSN 2448-878X. https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2024.54.1.607.
This article aims to make a theoretical contribution to approach the answer to what the goal -the meaning or purpose- of education is in this change of era. The reflection makes an analysis and a proposal, methodologically based on two frameworks by very different authors. First, the general structure of the article is organized around the classification of the triangle where teachers are found in the knowledge society, according to Hargreaves (2003), from a pedagogical analysis. An analogy of this triangle is made by taking two of its vertices as the dominant trends to respond to the goals of education in today’s world and the third as the framework to present the central complex humanist proposal of this work, which is the development of human consciousness considered in its personal, interpersonal, social and planetary dimension, as the meaning of an education that contributes to progressively build what Henman (2022) calls a positive Anthropocene. Within each section, reflection is organized as an originally developed adaptation to education, based on what Lonergan (2008) calls the invariant structure of the human good under construction.
