VARGAS GRANDE, Mónica. Issues of Teacher Professional Identity. Analysis Based on the Development of a State of the Art. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2024, vol.54, n.2, pp.359-385. Epub 21-Jun-2024. ISSN 2448-878X. https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2024.54.2.633.
The professional identity of teachers has been a topic of growing interest in recent years, due to changes in regulations that affect their work. This text aims to provide a general overview of the professional identity of teachers, with a focus on studies centered on higher education professors or that have used the biographical-narrative method. To this end, the stages of developing a state of the art proposed by Jiménez (2009) have been followed. The findings reveal tensions between the professional identity and the professional profile that teachers must assume, which is characterized as a struggle that puts their professional identity into crisis. This tension manifests in the teacher’s personality as a person and in the reflection of the system in which they participate as a professional (Cantón, 2018; Jiménez, 2009; Tenti, 2007). Given the limited research on this topic in Mexico from the perspective of the teachers themselves, the undertaking of a study using the biographical-narrative methodology is considered in the near future.
