MONDRAGON-ZAMORA, Jennifer et al. Endovascular arteriovenous fistulas for hemodialysis: a therapeutic option. Literature review. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2024, vol.52, n.1, pp.20-26. Epub 16-Abr-2024. ISSN 2696-130X. https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.23000045.
An operative vascular access is crucial for patients undergoing hemodialysis but keeping it unobstructed and operational is a continuous challenge. There are several techniques for achieving this, with the most well-known being the central venous catheter and the arteriovenous fistula creation. Efforts are currently being directed towards the development of less invasive techniques, such as the establishment of percutaneous accesses, among which the Ellipsys and WavelinQ. The aim of this study is to conduct a comprehensive review of the literature concerning both devices, including their instructions for use and outcomes. Primary patency rates were 51.85% and 47.97% for WavelinQ and Ellipsys, respectively. Secondary patency rates were 81.36% and 92.12%, respectively. The technical success rate approached 100%. Percutaneous arteriovenous fistulas present themselves as a minimally invasive and secure option for establishing hemodialysis vascular access.
