In this paper I look over the changes that were introduced in the curriculum for elementary school formation and into the programs for training teachers of primary school, which have been implemented in Mexico since the eigthies. My aim is documenting the disappearance in this formation of the systematic knowledge of the language. I presume that the non-optimal results in the evaluation tests are, in part, a reflection of this absence.
