Resumen

RODRIGUEZ RIVERA, Mario Roberto; QUINONEZ, Marco Antonio  y  MARTINEZ SCHWEINFURTH, Ramón Alberto. The year in septic shock. Med. crít. (Col. Mex. Med. Crít.) [online]. 2016, vol.30, n.3, pp.198-203.  Epub 30-Ago-2021. ISSN 2448-8909.

Septic shock represents the most common type of circulatory shock and likewise the most common cause of death in the Intensive Care Unit. Considering the advances made in evidence based medicine, we decide to illustrate the reader with a selection of articles that can possibly change our clinical practice regarding septic shock, that were published in the years 2013 and 2014. Current guidelines emphasize certain changes, like the preference of cristaloids over coloids for resuscitation fluids, the designation of norepinephrine as the vasopressor of choice and the emphasize they put on protocol based care. Despite of that, recent publications have shifted pur paradigm of protocol based care and as to which crystalloid solution is the best for the management of this patients. It can be concluded that the most important aspects for the management of septic shock regarding a decrease in mortality are the early recognition of the sepsis syndrome, early initiation (within the first hour) of antibiotics and prompt administration of resuscitation fluids.

Palabras llave : Septic shock; protocol based management; severe sepsis.
