VALLEJO NARANJO, Carmen. Chivalry in Medieval Christian Iconography. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2008, vol.30, n.93, pp.33-67. ISSN 0185-1276. https://doi.org/10.22201/iie.18703062e.2008.93.2275.
This article examines the ideological-cultural loans that took place between the Medieval Church and the institution of Chivalry in the form of the appearance and assimilation of chivalric iconography and iconology in Christian iconographic repertoire. This reveals the importance and influence possessed by this lay ideology as a depositary of all the human and Christian values of the time. Knighthood became a complete aesthetic and moral ideal contained in the concept of the epic, and gave rise to one of the most felicitous artistic themes of European culture.
