ORDORIKA, Teresa. Entre la obediencia y la libertad. Una mujer española del siglo XVII. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2006, vol.48, n.197, pp.21-33. ISSN 0185-1918.
The object of this article is to show some of the advantages of using inquisitorial trials in historical and sociological research pertaining to Spain (and its colonies). In particular, these documents allow us to learn about the lives and thoughts of people whose existence is not recorded in other sources. Such is the case of women, particularly those of lower strata. The trial presented here deals with one of those women: Theresa Corella. Her case enables us to see some of the socially acceptable positions available to women during this period, as well as the ways in which these could be combined to achieve greater free-dom. It also allows us to analyze how ecclesiastical and generic powers tried to control these women.
