Resumen

VELASCO CRUZ, Saúl. Racism and Education in Mexico. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2016, vol.61, n.226, pp.379-407. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.1016/S0185-1918(16)30015-0.

This article acknowledges formal education is strongly influenced and outlined, from its bases, by eugenicist and social Darwinism foundations and orientations that make it highly prone to the production and reproduction of racism, in such a way that, with or without explicit or implicit racist contents, formal education offers conditions that allow racism to take place by the simple development of the corresponding educational curriculum. Yet, neither international organizations charged by their agendas with preventing and fighting racism, nor local institutions established in the country with similar aims, seem to take note of this fact, which is neither present in most of the Mexican research that explores racism within institutional education.

Palabras llave : racism; formal education; social Darwinism; eugenics; Mexico.
