MORALES, José R.; AGUILAR CORDERO, Wilian; GOMEZ VARELA, Carmen Salazar y GARCIA GIL, J. Gerardo. Rural-urban migration as a factor change in the composition and management of mayan homegarden. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2024, vol.24, n.74, e1928. Epub 08-Mar-2024. ISSN 2448-6183. https://doi.org/10.22136/est20241928.
The purpose of this study was to determine if migration modifies the management and composition of agrobiodiversity in the homegardens, spaces where the richness of species ensures the provision of goods. In Dzoyaxché, Yucatán, we conducted semi-structured interviews and generated agrobiodiversity inventories in were applied to homegardens without migrants (SSM) and with migrants (SCM). The SSM recorded higher floristic and backyard fauna diversity; in SCM, there was a redistribution of management responsibilities. Thus, rural-urban migration, in Dzoyaxché, is a factor that determines agrobiodiversity.
