Resumen

YANEZ-CORRAL, A.M.  y  ZARATE-GRAJALES, R.A.. Design of an instrument for assessing time link process of nursing. Enferm. univ [online]. 2016, vol.13, n.2, pp.99-106. ISSN 2395-8421.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.reu.2016.03.002.

Considering the highest importance of patient security, it is certain that adequate nurse-shifting contributes to preventing adverse events, as it favors communication and coordination among health teams, while promoting continuity of care.

Objective

To design an instrument to assess the quality in the nurse-shifting process.

Methods

A quantitative transversal study was performed using 42 observation guides. The measurement instrument covers 4 areas: social and demographic data, organization issues, patient delivery and reception (with 3 sub-dimensions), and observations. Validation was performed through the expert-judge technique and calculating Cohen and Kuder Richardson Kappa coefficients.

Results

The instrument, named "Assessment of the quality in the process of nursing shifting", Yáñez and Zárate, 2014, had a satisfactory content validity result according to the experts participating. The observers concordance was k = 0.92 with internal consistency of r = 0.93.

Conclusions

The instrument has enough validity and reliability to be used with the target population. The standardization of the nurse-shifting process contributes to preventing adverse events, and assuring quality of care.
