GUZMAN HERNANDEZ, Ignacio Alejandro  y  ESCOBAR RUIZ, Valeria. Child Participation in Heritage Conservation. Educative Proposal in Pantanos de Centla. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2022, vol.12, n.23, 00040.  Epub 27-Mayo-2024. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl122320221467.

The objective of this paper is to expose how children’s participation in heritage conservation should be applied to the current educational model, including a vision focused on the needs of the communities, exemplified with an initial proposal based on a pilot test in the Maya-Chontal community of Quintín Arauz, Centla, Tabasco. To this end, the literature on the variables of interest (heritage, community, patrimonialization, memory, child participation, alternative education and community needs) is presented, grouped into three themes: 1) The need for children’s participation in the conservation of the heritage. 2) The educational model centered on the needs of the community. 3) Towards a multidirectional transmission of knowledge. An initial proposal of activities for the community is proposed, explaining the need to continue the participatory action-research process with a representative sample of the target community. As for the results, the evolution of the concepts and variables is briefly presented, as well as the context of the Maya-Chontal community of Quintín Arauz, Centla, Tabasco, problems and opportunities of the educational model. An example is proposed as an initial proposal for a curriculum with workshops and a children’s and youth organization, thinking that it should be proposed and applied from within, using the multidirectional transmission of knowledge with the contribution and cooperation of the members of the community. One of the implications of the proposal is that it must ake into account the inevitable changes of any social group and be modified to the needs expressed by its members with a larger sample. The value of the study is that it addresses the educational needs of children in rural communities, providing elements for contextualized and specific public policies consistent with the needs. Processes such as the one proposed will allow all members to be involved in decision-making, including children as subjects of rights who have a voice in what concerns their community. The conclusion is that it is necessary to incorporate the needs and activities of the specific context into education, identify what is not implicit that is important for children and that are catalysts for change. The proposed proposal must be constantly fed back and diagnosed in order to adapt as best as possible to what its members consider relevant. Public policies should improve the articulation and direction of projects of this type so that they have a greater impact on the communities.
