Through a demoscopic instrument considering three dimensions of social representation theory, research was made about the knowledge and beliefs regarding climate change among the adult population of the Jamapa and Pixquiac river basins. The population of these two river basins recognizes the existence of climate change and has identified local environmental issues, several of which are related to the causes or consequences of climate change. They are aware of the anthropic origin of the phenomenon and that it aggravates the lay issues of poverty, migration, disease, malnutrition and famine. There is an evident absence of institutional mitigation and adaptation actions. Most people get informed about climate change via television, and the corresponding responsible authorities have little credibility among the population. Nonetheless, a social representation regarding climate change was not observed.
