In this paper, we want to discuss the meaning of ethical upbringing. Our aim is to reach a coherent conception of ethical upbringing, based on the way by which is grounded, fundamentally, on the philosophies of Aristotle and Hegel. Following the historical and philosophical development of the notion upbringing, we argue that it implies from within the need of attaining ethical training. In this sense, the notion of Bildung serves as a guide for fulflling the task recommended by UNESCO concerning the need to include courses on ethics across the curriculum in professional studies. However, in order to achieve what this notion implies we need to change our understanding upon the value of material wealth and reject the Kantian doctrine on the metaphysical division between the world of value and the world of facts.
