CECENA, René. "Si Helena hubiera estado en Ilión" La referencialidad espacial de khôra y tópos como elemento epistemológico de la Historia griega antigua. En-clav. pen [online]. 2014, vol.8, n.16, pp.177-201. ISSN 2594-1100.
The aim of this article is to explain the epistemological role played by the notions of χώρα (khôra: region) τόπος (tópos: place) as central elements of the thematization of space in the construction of historical discourse in Ancient Greece. In this sense we seek to complement other studies in which we found an increased recurrence of such notions in Ancient historical texts in comparison to mythic-poetical and tragic texts; one which seeks to build the framework of reference for the events accounted by History. This paper puts an emphasis on the correspondence between the construction of this framework, signified by khôra and tópos, and the polis' characteristic questioning of the social foundation, and so, with the development of an argumentative discourse. Hence it seeks to show that the notions of khôra and tópos turn into an epistemological resource in the process of argumentative foundation of historical knowledge as a product of the polis and consciously alternative to the myth and the notion of εὐρύς (eurús: far-reaching), that is, a knowledge that results from the argumentative demand of the polis in which the first epistemological reference to the narrated fact is its framework: khôra and tópos.
