Resumen

YERENA YAMALLEL, José Israel et al. Carbon concentration in the stem of 21 conifer species from northeastern Mexico. Rev. mex. de cienc. forestales [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.13, pp.49-56. ISSN 2007-1132.

There is no information on the carbon concentration accomplished by forest species that grow at the Northeast of the country, a fact that makes it necessary to initiate specifics work to establish methodological bases to keep a record. Through this study was determined the carbon concentration in the stem of 21 species of conifers that grow in the northeast of Mexico, specifically in the states of Nuevo Leon and Coahuila, by using a Solids TOC Analyzer analytical equipment that works with complete combustion at 900 °C, through a non-dispersive infrared detector. For the collection of samples was used a non-destructive method, which consisted on the removal of a fraction of the cross section of the stem. A total of 210 samples were taken from 70 individuals. Through an analysis of variance were found significant differences in the stem (P < 0.0001), which ranged from 45.67 ± 1.08% in Pinus remota to 51.18 ± 0.62% in Juniperus flaccida which recorded the highest per cent value, with a general average of 48.39±2.03%. If the carbon concentration for species and the biomass per individual is known, a more accurate estimation of carbon content in ecosystems can be accomplished, when forest inventories are carried out.
