This contribution presents the relation between museology and communication- from the perspective of the semiotics of culture. It examines the communicative dimension of the museum, which far from being a function of the institution rather constitutes an operating characteristic of the museological process. The content of this article is organised in two sections: the first part addresses the state of the art regarding this issue; the second part discusses the notion museological text with reference to a case study in the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM, The Museum of Modern Art), Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA, National Institute of Fine Arts) in Mexico city, México. Closing remarks reflect upon the contribution of the semiotic approach to the renewal of museological actions.
