RODRIGUEZ, Santiago-Andrés. Inequality of opportunities in undergraduate admission to the UNAM by competitive selection process: reconfigurations and continuities. Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2022, vol.13, n.37, pp.18-41. Epub 01-Ago-2022. ISSN 2007-2872. https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.20072872e.2022.37.1302.
The objective of this article is to analyze the effects of sociodemographic characteristics, the school background and the social origins of the students who aspire to enroll at the undergraduate program at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) by means of the entrance exam. The article is framed in the sociological perspective of social stratification and inequality of opportunities. The information comes from the UNAM Statistical Data Sheet and the analysis strategy is based on a logistic regression model. The results show that admission by selection examination remains inequitable and highlight the need to think about alternative mechanisms aimed at reducing inequality.
