SERRANO PEREIRA, Mario Gerardo; PINTO LORIA, María de Lourdes  y  HERNANDEZ PAYAN, Emelia. Social Responsibility: Development and Validation of a Scale for University Students. Psicumex [online]. 2022, vol.12, e447.  Epub 13-Ene-2023. ISSN 2007-5936.  https://doi.org/10.36793/psicumex.v12i1.447.

The purpose of this exploratory study was to provide elements for the measurement of university social responsibility (USR) through the development and validation of a scale in accordance with the Vallaeys Social Responsibility Management Model (2007). Said model, based on RSU programs of most public universities in Mexico. The study had several phases that included a preliminary phase, where, through expert judges, an initial bank of 150 reagents was generated. In phase 1, the discriminative capacity of each item was analyzed, which allowed us to select 30 of them that were applied in phase 2 to a sample of 500 students from five different campuses of a public university in Yucatán, Mexico. The Cronbach's alpha obtained was .86 and the factor analysis matrix showed three dimensions that explained 30.97 % of the variance. The resulting dimensions were: social knowledge management (alpha = .77), professional training (alpha = .75) and social participation (alpha = .74). Finally, phase 3 analyzed the correlation between the factors obtained through Pearson's coefficient. The results provide evidence on the viability of the scale for university students.
