ZAVALA MEDINA, Daniel. “La sabiduría del jacinto”: Notes for a botany poetics in Zozobra by Ramón López Velarde. Connotas. Rev. crit. teór. lit. [online]. 2021, n.23, pp.107-131. Epub 16-Dic-2021. ISSN 2448-6019. https://doi.org/10.36798/critlit.v0i23.369.
The aim of this article is to make an initial exploration of the botanical images in the Zozobra (1919) collection of poems by Ramón López Velarde. The hypothesis in this essay is that flowers, trees and fruits are not only the ornament of idealized environments. I consider that the vegetation is portrayed, of course, because of its natural beauty; but it also reflects physical and emotional states of the poet and the women whom he loves. Likewise, it should be noted that plant symbolism evolved significantly throughout the writer’s career. The approaches of La provincia inmutable. Estudios sobre la poesía de Ramón López Velarde by Martha L. Canfield and “Las flores en el modernismo hispanoamericano” by Lily Litvak, are this essay’s staring point.
