BLANCO RAMOS, Roberto y FALLAS MONGE, María Fernanda. Of heroes, commitment and politics. A rereading of the novel Mamita Yunai, by Carlos Luis Fallas from autofiction. Connotas. Rev. crit. teór. lit. [online]. 2022, n.24, pp.60-81. Epub 30-Mayo-2022. ISSN 2448-6019. https://doi.org/10.36798/critlit.v0i24.379.
This article aims to elaborate a rereading of the novel Mamita Yunai (1941), by the Costa Rican writer Carlos Luis Fallas, from the literary and theoretical approaches of the so-called autofiction. To this end, both the main autofictional mechanisms used by the narrator, as well as the existing links between literature of socio-political commitment, which postulates a strategy of dissemination and social awareness, and the correlation with the strategies of autofiction are examined, highlighting the formation of a literary identity of a communist-proletarian nature. The importance of conducting this study lies in the fact that, to date, there is no research that has studied this novel from an autofictional approach. In addition, the analysis seeks to present the text as an antecedent of the formulation of the theoretical debate of autofiction, which emerged in 1977, with the creation of the neologism “autofiction” elaborated by Serge Doubrovsky.
