Resumen

HERNANDEZ-GUTIERREZ, José Carlos  y  LOPEZ-RODRIGUEZ, Guillermo. Organized crime as a determinant of homicides in Guerrero. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2024, vol.86, n.1, pp.77-108.  Epub 23-Feb-2024. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2024.1.61530.

The objective of this article is to understand what combination of conditions would explain that some municipalities in the state of Guerrero had a high number of homicides in 2018 while others did not. Drawing on the literature on drug-related violence as a theoretical reference, the research examined the following hypothesis: a number of eradicated hectares of opium poppy not higher than the state’s average and the dispute between two or more criminal organizations in the same municipality is a sufficient configuration for the existence of a high number of homicides. A crisp-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (csQCA) confirmed this hypothesis.

Palabras llave : homicides; illicit crops; organized crime; Guerrero.
