MATA-SANTEL, Jaqueline; LUNA-GIJON, Gerardo y RONQUILLO-BOLANOS, Abraham. Analysis of newspaper articles on violence against women through data management strategies from information design. Acta univ [online]. 2023, vol.33, e3664. Epub 08-Mar-2024. ISSN 2007-9621. https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2023.3664.
Information design is a discipline that contributes to making violence against women visible. In this text, through a qualitative approach, an analysis of journalistic notes on violence against women reported by three digital newspapers in Puebla, Mexico, during January 2022, is presented. Findings show that the referred media do not present sufficient data to identify the profile of the aggressor, and that the person who has suffered violence is depersonalized, hence avoiding that the reader assess the reported situation. It is expected that this work will contribute to the appreciation of information design as a tool that, through information management processes, reveals patterns that would otherwise go unnoticed. The above is proposed understanding that making information visible is a first step to fight inequalities. In conclusion, it is emphasized that newspapers perpetuate patterns that obscure violence.
