Objective:
To determine the prevalence of patellofemoral misalignment in patients with knee pain in first-time consultation at Family Medicine Unit 73.
Material and methods:
A clinical, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional investigation was carried out in the period from November 2020 to August 2021.
Results:
The sample consisted of 100 patients with a diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis, observing that 72% were female, the most affected age group was 46 to 55 year-old, and 43% were overweight. Based on the Kujala questionnaire, 50% showed regular functionality. It was determined that the prevalence of patellofemoral misalignment was 55%, of this 55% the female sex is the most affected (43%), the most affected age group is between 46 and 50 years; in addition, patients with grade I obesity are the most affected.
Conclusions:
When performing the Merchant projection radiography, it is observed that a significant number of patients with gonalgia present patellofemoral misalignment, with this a timely second-level referral can be performed.
