This article describes and questions Mexico's new energy legislation; which was recently approved by Congress. The author posits that this piece of legislation constitutes the country's most important structural reforms in relation to the repercussions it will have on Mexico's independence and the sovereignty, its impact on the strength of the state, tax revenue, its subordination to US geostrategic policies and its threat to Mexico's already feeble welfare state.
