GUZMAN VENTURA, Juan Antonio et al. Soil Liquefaction Failure in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz (Mexico) After the Tehuantepec Earthquake (Mw 8.2) of September 7th 2017. Ing. sísm [online]. 2020, n.102, pp.82-106. Epub 07-Oct-2020. ISSN 0185-092X. https://doi.org/10.18867/ris.102.526.
This paper consists in a review of 21 homes damaged due to liquefaction of soils after the September 7th, 2017 earthquake (Mw 8.2) in the city of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz in Mexico. For this purpose, five standard penetration tests (SPT) were carried out to determine the geotechnical properties of the site where the greatest damage occurred. Additionally, the maximum ground acceleration during the seismic event was estimated using EHVSR and MHVSR techniques, in order to suppress or estimate the site effects at 5 points located in the study area. Finally, liquefaction vulnerability of sandy strata was determined by the simplified empirical method proposed by Seed and Idriss (1971) and modified by Youd et al. (2001).
Palabras llave : earthquake; maximum soil acceleration; EHVSR (Earthquake Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio); MHVSR (Microtremor Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio); soil liquefaction.
