OLIVARES ZORRILLA, Rocío. El libro metágrafo de Alejo de Venegas y El sueño de sor Juana: la lectura del universo. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2000, vol.22, n.76, pp.89-112. ISSN 0185-1276.
Based on the painstaking, analytical treatment of the expressive virtues characterizing the poetic language of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Rocío Olivares compares the world view embodied in the Mexican nun's Primero sueño (First Dream) with the conception of 16th century Toledan philosopher, Alejo de Venegas. Since the work entitled Diferencias de los libros que hay en el universo (Differences between the Books Existing in the Universe) frequently appeared in book inventories circulating in New Spain, it is fair to assume the Spanish philosopher's direct influence on Sor Juana. This is especially noteworthy in the world view exemplified in her silva and in the second or "metagraphic" book of the universe, as it was termed by its author, which was considered a transcript of the archetypical or divine first book.
