In this essay Araceli Modragón discusses important aspects of Ernest Bloch ways of thinking about Utopia in the 20th Century. The author tries to reassess the importance of utopian thought not only in its sociopolitical dimension, but al so in its ethic and aesthetic possibilities and its contribution to place the reader in an open non deterministic historical perspective. Furthermore, what Bloch called "the principIe of hope" can be perceived as a key concept that allows mankind to extend its possibilities towards the limits of a possible future which is not yet accomplished.
